OPRYD Summer Program Update

Neighborhood Town Camp – A Safe Place

The City of Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development (OPRYD) will be hosting Neighborhood Town Camp administered in compliance with current State and County public health orders and will include numerous protocols to maintain social distancing and other relevant measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. All social distancing and proper hygiene and sanitization requirements will be followed and increased outdoor activities have been added to the camp curriculum. Participants will remain in stable groups of 8-12 children, called a "Pod". Each Pod will be assigned Camp Staff who will stay with that Pod throughout the duration of the session. Pods will not mix with one another and staff will not change Pods.

Offered in a safe outdoor environment at our recreation centers, Neighborhood Town Camp serves youth entering grades Kindergarten through 9th grade and includes breakfast and lunch. Themed week curriculum consists of math and reading, enriching games, and activities that are designed with each child's health and safety in mind. Camp hours are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm and will take place in two 3-week sessions from June 29 to July 17, and July 20 to August 7. Due to Limited Capacity, we can ONLY provide care for children whose parents or guardians are Oakland residents or City of Oakland employees. Pre-registration is required and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.  Registration opens Monday, June 8 at 7:00pm.

For information on other Town Camp offerings including Tennis, Golf, Dance, Nature, and Boating, please contact the program facility directly.  At this time, the County public health order prohibits pools from opening.
